BALLIOL

Balliol College possesses an extensive collection of Theological Manuscripts of wide-ranging interest to scholars.

The documents include the letters of Jerome, John Chrysostom and Bernard of Clairvaux. There are copies of Duns Scotus’ most important works and a 12^th century ‘De Trinitate’ by Augustine.

Among the most celebrated writings at Balliol are Bede’s ‘Historia Ecclesiastica’ and Thomas Aquinas’ ‘Summa Theologica’. Together the collection provides a reflection on the theological attitudes and influences of the mediaeval period wich is indispensable to research into religious history.
